  • According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), binge drinking is defined as 4 drinks or more for women and 5 drinks or more for men in a two hour period
  • The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA) defines heavy drinking as engaging in binge drinking on 5 or more days in a 30 day time period
  • Moderate drinking is up to 1 drink per day for women and up to 2 drinks for men per day

    • Weight
    • Chromosomal sex
    • Type of alcohol (percentage of Alcohol By Volume[ABV])
    • Rate of consumption
    • Time period in which it is consumed
